GRATEFUL DOG BAKERY HOLDS WOOFSTOCK FUNFEST 2008

As the dog days of summer approach, so does the Fourth Annual “WoofStock Fun Fest Pawty” at Grateful Dog Bakery, 31966 Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville.

The annual anniversary event takes place Saturday, August 2 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, August 3 from 12-4pm—all benefiting area rescue organizations Love-A-Stray, Fido’s Companion, Middleburg Heights Animal Foundation and Erie Shores Humane Society. The weekend promises fun for humans and canines, including an animal communicator, a caricature artist, face painting for humans, agility demos, games, contests, races, pet massage, nail trims, microchipping, information booths, pet and child ID kits and refreshments. Admission is free and parking is $2. (It is recommended that you carpool.)

“We started the event as a way to celebrate the store’s opening at our first anniversary, and it’s evolved to become much more than that,” says Nancy Winrod, owner of Grateful Dog Bakery. “Every year we add on more vendors and activities, which allows us to raise even more money and awareness for the animal rescue groups we support,” she adds.

The following is a breakdown of activities by day…

• SATURDAY, AUGUST 2, 10am-5pm
Onsite for Saturday will be local rescue groups Love-A-Stray and Middleburg Heights Animal Foundation with pets available for adoption.

Also onsite will be Pet Caricature Artist EJ; Animal Communicator Doris Straka; Author Holly McCain signing her books; Photos in the Flower Patch; agility demonstrations; “Weiner” and small dog races; face painting for humans; Paint Your Own Portraits by your dog; a demonstration by the North Ridgeville Police K9 Unit; skinny-dipping pool for dogs; contests; games; prizes; human refreshments by Café Aroma of North Ridgeville; raffles; and free child finger-printing and ID kits for pets and children by Farmers Insurance. Barkyard Vineyards “Wine for Dogs,” Haagen Paws Ice Cream and Cool Treats will be available for dogs.

There will also be information booths by Wholesome Pet Distributing, Golden Retrievers In Need (G.R.I.N.), Canine Companions, Skunkhaven Rescue, Forever Friends Pet Care Center, and K-9 Companions Training.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 3, 12-4pm
Onsite for Sunday will be Fido’s Companion and Erie Shores Humane Society with pets available for adoption.

Sunday’s activities will also include all of the events and vendors that are onsite for Saturday.

Sunday only will be: Nail trims, Teeth brushing and Eye cleaning by Designer Doggies; Pet Massage by Pet Kneads; Microchipping by Avon Lake Animal Hospital and human refreshments by Rita’s Italian Ice of Westlake.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my boy Duffy. Pick out your favorite pet picture and send it to the Cleveland APL for their 2009 calendar.

The August 1st deadline for photo submissions is rapidly approaching so I wanted to make sure you had all heard about this totally fun project.

Here’s what you do:

· Take some photos of your pet and select your favorite.
· Submit it to the Cleveland APL’s Make Your Furry Friend a Star Calendar Contest along with a registration form (available at http://www.clevelandapl.org/furryfriends.htm) along with the $25 entry fee per photo.
· Wait on pins and needles to receive your FREE copy of the calendar in October!

A panel of local celebrity friends will judge the entries and select 12 pictures that will be featured as “Pet of the Month.” Even if your pet’s photo isn’t selected for a month, it’s guaranteed to be included somewhere on the pages of the 2009 Cleveland APL Pet Calendar.

All proceeds will support the programs that serve the homeless animals cared for and loved by the people of the Cleveland APL.

She is as sweet as pie and as soft as black velvet. Blackie, a one year old spayed female Retriever mix was confiscated from her previous family, as they left her abandoned for over a week. She is very sweet, but still quiet and timid. A nice patient family and a comfortable home could truly break her of her timid nature. Give some Tender Love and Care to Blackie’s kind and gentle soul—and she will win your heart over forever.

An outdoor cat, taken in during the Winter, then brought to our shelter. Chloe is a two year old spayed female Domestic Shorthair awaiting her permanent home so she does not have to live outside in the elements ever again. She has been here a few months and is antsy to meet her new family. Check out her phenomenal long white whiskers and gorgeous yellow-green eyes! Holden Arboretum Seeks Volunteers

The Holden Arboretum is accepting applications for volunteers for the fall months. This unique experience offers individuals the opportunity to share their knowledge and love of the outdoors. Holden understands that volunteers will commit a great deal of time and energy to Holden, but the rewards of this commitment are the satisfaction of helping others increase appreciation and understanding of horticulture and the natural world.

School guide
Become a volunteer school guide and lead groups of curious children through Holden’s magical world of trails, ponds, fields and lush gardens. This is a great way to give to the community and treat yourself to a great outdoor experience this fall season. All hands-on, this opportunity does not require lecturing, plus volunteers will share their experience with like-minded adults in a friendly and inviting atmosphere.

VIP Guide
Volunteer Interpreter Program guides enjoy leading tours on foot or by tram. Knowledge of horticulture and a love of the outdoors is a plus. Volunteers receive expert training on Holden gardens and collections. Share your love of nature with other like-minded adults in a warm and friendly setting.

All volunteers receive training and guidance from Holden experts. Training sessions begin in August. Sassy, a five year old spayed female Domestic Shorthair is a bit attached to her Winnie the Pooh blanket. She loves to be petted—but is sensitive to petting below her shoulder blades. This could be due to previous ailments from when she lived life as a stray. Sassy has been at the shelter since December 2007—and is currently sponsored, so her new best friend can take her home with a bag of toys and treats picked specifically for her Sassy self!

There are about 400 cats being sheltered at the Cleveland APL at this time and about 200 more being fostered or at local Petsmart, Petco and Pet Supermarket. Last year, Tim's wife, Faith Hill, reamed a lady in the audience for grabbing her husband inappropriately. Tuesday night, Tim was singing "Indian Outlaw" at a concert in Washington when he noticed an aggressive male in the front row striking a woman. Tim called for security while yanking the guy up on stage. Seems this guy needed some instruction on how to treat a lady!

In celebration of Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, for the month of June, the APL has undergone a transformation into “Purrywood” and is hosting homeless, feline celebrities who played starring roles in locally produced films such as Iron Cat, The Incredible Cat, Cats and the City, and Kingdom of the Many Kitties! OK ... not really, but it’s totally fun and the cats ARE incredible and desperately need homes!

Purrywood’s feline celebrities, like Sarah JessiCat Parker and HarriCat Ford, will be available for immediate adoption. Adult cats, aged 5 months and older, will be adopted for $25 and kittens under 5 months for $50. The adoption fee includes initial vaccines, FeLV/FIV testing, treatment for parasites, spay or neuter surgery, a collar and tag, travel box, one month’s pet insurance, and a health exam from a local veterinarian. If you've never seen "Army wives" on Lifetime TV, you are missin out on a great show! My husband and I are both hooked on this show. It's timely, emotional and addictive! I loved Kim Delaney on "NYPD Blue" and she's even better on this show. She just lost her college bound daughter in an explosion and has to deal with going on with her life. It's on Sunday nights at 10pm on Lifetime. I never miss it! Season 1 is out on DVD! Rent it, catch up, then tune in on Sunday nights!

Getting rid of bees on your deck!

From WikiAnswers....
The first rule is do not do anything until it is dark, when they are back in the hive. The second rule (daylight) is do not wear yellow...they are attracted to it. Best color is light shades of khaki, and the other obvious things, such as no sugar drinks etc.
Misc......: Don't swat them, just slowly fade back. If you swat and kill one, like many of the flying stinging pests, they emit a chemical "alarm" that brings others to the "rescue". If you get chased, generally speaking, they fly in straight lines, so zig-zag as you run.
Just pick a safe spot, and watch where they are all returning to locate the hive in the ground, log, etc. If it is off your property, like a ditch behind the fence, etc., You are on your own. If you call a private exterminator,they will not come unless it is on your property. If you call the park service, they usually will not come either.
FYI....if you have lots of bees flying "your way", such as when you are out on the deck during the day....you are probably on the "fly-way" path of the bees. They use markers to navigate. If you move your deck furniture, or umbrella, bright colored items off your deck, or to different location, sometimes they will at least use a different route.
well - in my back yard we had a massive nest that was lik 1m long in my tree. my dad got a bucket of terps and dumped it on there. nothing can survive breathin and drinkin terps.
The best way to make bees escape and fly away is to provide smoke (NOT FIRE) in the area.
Dump a bucket of soapy water (Ex. Dawn, Liquid soap, oxy clean)you may mix them, then dump some insect repellent in your mixture. Dump it down the hole/entrance of the nest. If you can't get near it during the day when the bees are active, you can dump it at night. NOTE: Just to be safe, after you dump the bucket, RUN. You have about 10-20 sec. to leave the area before the bees will attack. Or, in other words, don't stay around to see the bees come out! Be sure to keep the soil soaked all times around the nest and entrance because the bees hate wet soil. And, the entrance should cave in from being wet, therefore, trapping the queen and most bees inside. the bees that are trapped OUTside the nest will eventually leave. Also, bees hate moth balls. You may put them down the entrance hole and scatter them on top of the land right around the opening. You can also put the moth balls in a pantyhoe or sock and hang it above the entrance.

The best way of getting rid of mosquitoes is Listerine, the original medicinal type. The Dollar Store-type works, too. I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.....Passit on.It kills them instantly. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle so it is not as expensive to use as the can of spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but sprayaround the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog houseif you have one.

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast.I remember begging the doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies. So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank You they muttered. A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery. It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it really quick! Blondie are set to hit the road this summer to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their third album, Parallel Lines, but it turns out, it wasn’t their idea. Singer Debbie Harry told Billboard that the label was behind the three-decade anniversary celebration, noting, “It’s really sort of traditional EMI behavior. None of us really were counting the hours and the days of whatever.” The tour gets underway on June 5th in Baltimore and on it, the group plans to play the album in its entirety, but might play some of the songs “a little more punky.” Meanwhile, on June 24th, an anniversary edition of Parallel Lines is due out. It includes a seven inch single version of “Heart of Glass,” the French version of “Sunday Girl,” remixes and a DVD with some TV performances and promo videos. As for the trek, Harry thinks all the anniversary festivities “will draw the group closer together in a way,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll work on new music. Debbie added, “I don't know exactly what the future of Blondie is for new material. Reached by PEOPLE after the separation was announced in a statement, Lange called the split "an unfortunate thing." He added, "It's literally just a growing apart, that's all." But sources close to the situation say a third party was involved: Marie-Anne Thiébaud, a longtime secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland. Having 18 children would be more than enough of a challenge for most women, but for U.S. mother Michelle Duggar it throws up an extra problem … she has to come up with an 18th name beginning with J so it won't stand out among its siblings.

The seven sisters and 10 brothers are Joshua, 20; twins Jana and John-David, both 18; Jill, 16; Jessa, 15; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 10; twins Jeremiah and Jedidiah, both nine; Jason, seven; James, six; Justin, five; Jackson, three; Johannah, two; and Jennifer, nine months old.

Mrs. Duggar, 41, of Bible-belt state Arkansas, is expecting on New Year's Day. "We've had three in January, and three in December. Those two months are a busy time for us," she said.
The fast-growing family lives in Tontitown in north-west Arkansas in a 7,000 sq ft home, and the children are all home-educated.

Mrs Duggar has been been pregnant for more than 11 years of her life, and the family is in the process of filming a television series for U.S. channel Discovery Health. Mrs Duggar said she is six weeks along and the pregnancy is going well. She and husband Jim Bob – evangelical Christians - said they would keep having children as long as God wills it.

"The success in a family is first off a love for God, and secondly treating each other like you want to be treated," Mr Duggar said.
"Our goal is for each one of our children to be best friends, and everybody working together to serve each other makes that happen."

Keep your keys close to your bed!

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside of your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around....after a few seconds all of the neighbors should be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

As far as the "pic telling a thousand words" ...Selena, my smaller dog, is more independent; after all she'd been through she looks so regal. Chevy, thinks he is a lap dog and likes to stay close to me. His bright eyes - a very aware dog. Then, of course, there is me with that shirt and my dogs - that could tell a keen observer alot about me.

As mentioned before, Chevy is an APL dog - from an APL shelter in Massillon, not Cleveland. Unfortunately, the Massillon shelter shut down. Adopting Chevy was about wanting a dog and also about adopting a homeless dog. I do not know exactly when he was born, but he was about 5 months old when I brought him home which puts him at about 6-1/2 soon. Chevy has been an absolutely awesome buddy; an intelligent and fun dog! He keeps me hopping.

As for Stark County Pound dog, Selena, it was not about really wanting another dog it was about making another small dent in the homeless dog situation. About 2-1/2 years after adopting Chevy I set out to adopt an older, less-likely-to-be-adopted, dog with pretty much no other requirements except being able to fit through our medium sized doggie door. On Dec 17, 2004 I pulled a nameless dog from the pound; she was dirty, emaciated, flea infested and freezing. I fed her a bit in the car and straight to the vet we went where it was obvious, also to the vet, that she had bonded to me all ready. I took her home, gave her a flea bath, kept her warm etc. Her actions showed she was grateful. It was one of the most rewarding things I'd ever done. How old? She refuses to tell me! Selena was pretty much nothing I'd ever wanted in a dog but she does not care because she won -- I love her to pieces!

You do not have to be someone who is working on animal welfare night and day to make a big difference. Adopting and caring for one shelter/rescue pet makes a huge difference for that pet and opens space and time for another. It also makes a difference through the unspoken message that it aims to send.

I used to fret about - and sometimes still do - not doing more, not saving more. One day a women who worked with a rescue organization said the me: "You adopted two dogs from shelters...? You did alot. Her words have stayed with me and have made me feel better.

...and a shirt says it all : )

Hi! My name is Alesha, I am from Fort Erie, Ontario. I was sitting front row at the AMAZING Buble concert Saturday night. I was also holding a sign that read "Michael... My boyfriend ditched me last minute. Please help me make him jealous." My new Cleveland friend that was sitting beside me called me today saying that there was quite a bit of talk about it being a set-up. I'm not sure if I am sending this to the right person, but I promise that it was not! I had about an hour to fill my boyfriend's seat, and no one could make the lengthy trip on such short notice. So I drove 3.5hrs there and back by myself because there was no way I was passing up front row centre tickets to see him. But I thought, lets make the best of an unfavourable situation and make it funny, so I made the sign, not thinking it would be a big deal and because I payed good money for the ticket and wanted the seat filled! Anyways, I just wanted to clear that up and say it wasn't set up by anyone, just a huge Buble fan trying to make the most of being at the concert by herself!I'm going to attempt to attach a couple photos. If they work one will be of me and my sign, and one of Michael laughing at it haha All the best!

Have you ever been bumped from a flight because the airline oversold the plane? It happens every day.

--Usually, they'll ask people to voluntarily give up their seat in exchange for a first class seat on another plane, or a hotel voucher, or airline miles, or whatever.

--But sometimes . . . there isn't anyone willing to give up their seat . . . and then people are involuntarily bumped. Thankfully, your Federal government has stepped in to rectify this!

--Yesterday, the Transportation Department announced that airlines who oversell flights MUST compensate passengers who are involuntarily bumped to another plane . . . with cold, hard CASH. Here's the breakdown . . .

--If you get bumped from your flight, the airline will pay you $400 if you get on another plane and arrive at your destination within TWO HOURS of the original arrival time . . . or within FOUR HOURS of the original time if you're flying internationally.

--But, if your arrival is delayed even longer than that . . . the airline has to pay you $800.

--According to the Transportation Department, the new policy is aimed at strengthening passenger protections, improving consumer choice and reducing airport and flight congestion. The new policy goes into effect next month.

A friend of our family used to work at one of the utility companies and during his retirement he told the story of the time he nodded off at work. #1.) SLEEP. This is pretty cut and dry: You have to get at least seven or eight hours of sleep every night . . . or else you'll, obviously, be tired . . . and you're not going to make it through a full day of work.

#2.) EAT HEALTHILY. You know the drill. Make sure to eat plenty of fruits and veggies. This basically guarantees that you'll have steady sugar levels throughout the day . . . so you don't crash.

#3.) EAT SMALL MEALS. Don't just do one massive meal . . . and think that it'll hold you over. It won't. Eat small snacks every few hours, even before and after lunch. And drink water instead of sodas.

#4.) GET OUT OF THE OFFICE. Most of us can't up and leave whenever we feel like it. But instead of staying in during your lunch break, go out for a 15 or 20-minute walk. It'll clear your mind, and help you to de-stress.

#5.) PLAY GAMES. Unless it's totally frowned upon by The Man, keep some Sudoku or crossword puzzles at your desk. They keep your brain going when you're feeling sluggish.

Here we are at our house Friday night coloring the Easter eggs for Sunday. One year when my husband was younger, he took a raw egg, colored it black, and put it in the Easter egg pile. When my mother-in-law saw it, she cracked it open and thought she hadn't cook all the other long enough to harden, so she threw them all out and started over!!!! Imagine how much trouble my husband Jeff was in when she found out it was a joke. We tell that story every year when we color our Easter eggs. By the way, he's STILL Mommy' s favorite!

That registry is for both wired and mobile phones and there is no deadline by which a phone number needs to be listed in order to be protected from telemarketing calls. There is not a separate cell phone registry. The registry is at: www.donotcall.gov. At this writing there is discussion among mobile providers about setting up a mobile phone directory listing mobile phone numbers. According to the Cellular Telephone and Internet Association (CTIA), a cell phone directory is proposed that would be available through calling directory assistance only, not published in writing or on the Internet. So far, there is not a set date when that will be done and the CTIA says the numbers are not going to be "handed over" to telemarketers. Users would have the option of not having their numbers listed in the directory. Jacki Hydock.Don't hate her just because she's beautiful -- hate her because she's beautiful inside and out. Model Jacki Hydock of North Olmsted is currently strutting along the airwaves on Bravo's latest reality hit "Make Me a Supermodel."
The 21-year-old and her mom drove to New York City for the audition, where Hydock was one of the top 24, picked from more than 10,000 hopefuls. Hydock, who's represented in town by the Docherty Agency, volunteers at an animal shelter in her spare time. She's done modeling work for years, appearing in fashion shows, advertisements, and yes, The Plain Dealer's fashion pages.
Hydock quickly became a fan favorite after refusing to wear a tiny string bikini on national TV during the first episode. You can watch her work it every Thursday at 10 p.m. on the Bravo network. She recently chatted with us via e-mail.
How is it going, are you just completely thrilled to be there?
Wow! So far, it's a great journey. It was definitely very surreal in the beginning. It didn't set in. And now that it's set in, it feels amazing. Just to have the opportunity I have at my fingertips is a blessing. It's definitely a great experience so far -- kind of nerve-racking, but my emotions have settled down now.
What's the best part of being on the show?
I have to say obviously, so far, the exposure. Just the networking and meeting all these people. But the best thing is I'm here. I'm accomplishing what I've worked so hard for.
What's the worst?
The worst part is not having a phone. It's the weirdest thing. I miss my boyfriend, my friends and my family. I miss talking to them. But they know I'm here, and they understand. It's hard not to be able to call the ones you love.
What you think sets you apart from the other contestants?
My drive is one thing that sets me apart. When I'm not in front of the panel, I'm still working. Even when you're not on camera, you're still at work. You can't give up for a minute because you don't know who's watching, who's going to say something, who's going to see you. My drive, my determination and where I come from -- that's what set me apart. I'll never forget where I come from, no matter how far I go.
Do your Cleveland roots help or hinder your progress from week to week?
It has helped me more than I can ask. Everyone at home is so supportive -- my work, my family. People I didn't even know wished me luck. It keeps me going. If I didn't have my family and the roots that I have, it would definitely be a lot harder.
What's the craziest thing you've been asked to do so far?
They wanted me to wear a thong on the runway, and I was like, "Dude, I'm not doing that." It seems like I overreacted. That got thrown at me pretty fast.
OK, we have to ask: How are the clothes?!
The clothes have been great! We got a workout outfit with shoes. We got a T-shirt from Heatherette -- they have amazing costumes, each is different from the next. I don't think I can move in a $3,000 shirt and I'm afraid to put it on, but once it's on, I feel good.
What have you learned about yourself as you go through this process?
One thing that I've learned, which my parents have enforced in me, is no matter where you are, stay true to yourself. People change, especially when they get so far in something, they forget about everything. That's the opposite for me. I'm never going to forget where I come from. It encourages me more knowing I have so much support. I'm going to put my best foot forward and make the most out of it.
So, you'll remember us when you're famous?
Absolutely. Whether I go home in three weeks or 10 weeks, I'm still going to go home and still eat at my favorite restaurant, still dine with my friends on West Sixth Street in Cleveland. I don't care where I am in the world, I know all the people who supported me and helped me out along the way.
Go Tribe, Go Browns, Go Cavs! I'm hoping I come back after March -- I want to go to an Indians game, but if not, I definitely want to go to a Cavs game.

"I don't think she should have won. I think it sends a bad message to our young people who are trying to get into this business, the ones who are trying to do it right and really trying to keep themselves together," said Cole, 58. "We have to stop rewarding bad behavior." Of Winehouse, 24, who is currently in rehab in England, Cole says: "I'm sorry. I think the girl is talented, gifted, but it's not right for her to be able to have her cake and eat it too. She needs to get herself together." On the seriousness of Winehouse's troubles, Cole – who over the years has battled her own substance-abuse problems, successfully – observes, "I mean, she could die. This isn't something that's cute and fun just to throw around in the press. Goat Cheese, Fig, and Basil Pizza

Makes 8 servings (2 pieces each person)

4-oz package dried figs, chopped

1 tbsp aged balsamic vinegar

3 tbsp water

1 large pizza crust or 4 round pita breads

1 cup crumbled soft goat cheese (a 4-oz package will yield 1 cup)

3 tbsp chopped fresh basil

1 tbsp pine nuts

1/2-1 tbsp olive oil

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Combine the figs, balsamic vinegar, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
3. Place the figs in a small bowl. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper.
4. Top the pizza with the goat cheese and figs, and sprinkle with the basil and pine nuts. Drizzle the olive oil over the top. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese melts.
Per serving: 168 calories, 6 g protein, 26 g carbohydrate, 5 g fat, 2.3 g saturated fat, 7 mg cholesterol, 2 g fiber, 215 mg sodium.

Light Seven-Layer Dip

Makes 12 servings

15-oz can fat-free refried beans with jalapeños

8 oz fat-free sour cream or plain yogurt

1-oz packet taco seasoning mix

8 oz guacamole

2 cups finely shredded reduced-fat cheese

2 large tomatoes, diced

1 bunch scallions,

1/4 cup sliced black olives

Baked tortilla chips
In a 13x9x2 clear dish, layer each of the following and serve with baked tortilla chips:
1. Refried beans

2. Sour cream mixedwith taco seasoning

3. Guacamole
4. Shredded cheese

5. Scallions

We took my nieces and nephew sledding at our friends Frank and Sharon Murphy's house. Frank builds mounds of snow in his front yard with a weaving track and even provides the saucers for the kids! I can't tell you how much fun the triplets had! After dark, he lights tiki torches along the track! Thanks for the memories, Frank!!!!!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Stefanie Paganini. She is the daughter of the famous Loretta Paganini from the Loretta Paganini School of Cooking on Mayfield Rd. in Chesterland. We had a lot in common in this brief meeting, including our love for animals. She has two cats and recently adopted a Greyhound from the rescue organization here in Northeast Ohio. Foods That Will Speed Up Your Metabolism

What is a Diuretic? A diuretic is a medication or chemical that promotes the elimination of fluid in the body. A tribute to Dan Fogelberg

I remember sitting in my parents rec room back in the 70's listening to "Homefree" from Dan Fogelberg. I thought he had the most beautiful voice. I would listen to the album over and over again. I knew every single word. Then one day, I sold all my albums at my garage sale. I didn't need them, I had a CD player. I heard Dan Fogelberg had past away Dec. 16th of prostate cancer with his wife Jean by his side. I wished I wouldn't have sold his albums. Over the holidays, I went searching for his albums. I couldn't find any. I looked all over. I finally downloaded it from Rhapsody on my MP3 player. They don't make music like that anymore. I've seen alot of artists in concert, but never had the chance to see him and I'm sorry for that. Now, I hear that Stephen Stills is battling prostate cancer. The good news according to Graham Nash on "Larry King Live" is that his was caught early. Keep Stephen Stills in your prayers.
